Goldenrod Gall Research

One major implication present in this research was that there was no way of knowing if the area that the goldenrods were retrieved from was equally biodiverse. By this, the problem was that there could have been an unusually large number of a certain gall predator, compared to others. In future research, the goldenrods can be retrieved from a controlled environment where there is no biodiversity imbalance of gall fly predators present. This would eliminate the limitation in this research and would provide even more accurate results. Overall, the goldenrod/goldenrod gall field is one that is lucrative and holds many different sources of information. This field can be expanded as time goes on to reach new levels of scientific progress.

10th grade was a memorable year in my scientific progression. This year leaped to the next level as I was introduced to research papers and statistical analysis. I was allowed to elevate my research to the next level from just lab reports to full research papers that I could submit. One of these research papers that I completed was on the Goldenrod gallfly. I set out with my peers to see how the size of a goldenrod gall affects the survival rate of the larvae inside. I ran a statistical analysis and wrote a full research paper demonstrating my work.
